Position:

Intuition Homestay Providers

Thank you for your interest in being a Homestay Provider and InTuition Teacher for International House Toronto (IHT). The following information will assist you in understanding the position for which you are applying.

InTuition Homestay

Providing homestay services involves the homestay person/family to open their home and share their lives with international students. The necessary requirements for providing homestay services are:

  1. Ownership of your residence (house/apartment/condo).
  2. Clean furnished private room (bed linens, closet/drawers, study desk and chair) NO BASEMENTS!
  3. Private/shared bathroom (private preferred)
  4. 3 meals daily (dinner to be prepared/cooked and breakfast & lunch to be prepared by you or the student depending on the living arrangement).
  5. Shared living area (TV, entertainment systems) and all other common facilities (eg. laundry).
  6. Involve the student in your social and family life.
  7. Good command of the English language.
  8. The homestay fee payable to you is $25 CAD/night.

The difference between providing homestay and room rental is that you’re accepting a guest into your home and life. Most of these students come here for the “Canadian” experience and want to do and see as many cultural things as possible, in addition to practicing their English with you. So, you’re expected to involve them in your life as opposed to just renting a room to a person.

InTuition Course

In order to maintain the high standards of the InTuition program at International House, the necessary requirements for our InTuition teachers are as follows:

  1. Completed University Degree
  2. Teaching English as a Second Language Training and Certification (equivalent to TESL Canada Certification)
  3. Native speaker
  4. No full-time commitments
  5. The teaching salary payable to you is $25/hr.

If you are interested in opening your home to international visitors, please send a cover letter and resume to Raquel Rumor, Director of Studies at dos@ihtoronto.com. Your application will be processed and we will contact you to set up a home visit/inspection. If you are submitting your application during the fall and winter seasons, which are our low seasons, we will process it next spring. Please include two references with your application. If you’re providing homestay services to other schools already, please list the schools as well.
