  3. Who is going to pick up/drop off my child/children at the airport?

When we have exact days and hours of the child/children trip we will inform you about the person picking your child up. International House works with professional companies and staff to ensure your child can easily be picked up.
  4. Can my child join the program on a weekday?

Yes, your child can come on a weekday. We just need to know the details of the child’s arrival. There is pick up service for every arrival.
  5. How will my child/children recognize the person/s picking them up at the airport?

The person picking up your child will have a big IH sign. He/She will be waiting for your child/children right outside the exit from the passport control section. Please make sure your child/children look for our school sign. It can be found at our website (www.sol-group.net)
  6. What happens if there is no one at the airport waiting for my child/children?

If we have the updated information on flight arrivals, there will always be someone at the airport to pick up your child. 7. Does my child have free time?

The program is designed to have organized activities all day. However we have also planned free time for the students
  8. Is my child/children always accompanied by an adult, during all the activities?

Yes. Your child will always be accompanied by our staff during all the activities. For the residential programs (summer Toronto only) there are also IH staff sleeping on the residence to make sure everything is fine during the night. For the other program, they will be staying with a family and they will be there for your child if they need help.
  9. What kind of food will they eat?

The food is prepared by professional cooks who work on campus during the whole academic year. There is a lot of variety to choose from and the quality is great. Meal options include:
    • Grill stations
    • Made-to-order pasta
    • Deli stations
    • Open salad bars
    • Pizza shops etc
Students living with families will have the chance to experience a true Canadian cuisine as the host family will cook for them.
  10. What facilities are there in the campuses?

Both campuses (for the residential programs) are fully equipped for a great student life experience. The facilities include:
    • Tennis courts
    • Squash courts
    • Baseball fields
    • Soccer fields
    • Pool and table tennis tables
    • Recreation rooms
    • Internet rooms
    • Library etc
  11. If my child is allergic to food and/or other things who do we tell that to?

You have to make sure you inform us (through the registration form) prior to your child’s arrival about any medical conditions concerning him/her. Depending on the medical condition, we will take all appropriate steps to make sure the child is taken care of.
  12. How can I communicate with my child/children during the trip?

In the residential programs, all rooms have private telephones. Upon arrival the child will find out the room number and the telephone number. You can use that phone number to communicate with your child at any time. There is also internet availability for them on campus. If your child lives with a family, you will be provided with the phone number of the family. Please make sure that you call your child at reasonable times. Everyone needs some sleep!
  13. Can my child bring his/her cell phone at the summer camp?

Sure. If it works and you can pay for it, there is no problem.
  14. How much pocket money should my child bring?

All the activities and the food on campus is paid for. If your child wants to take pocket money for extra expenditures, he/she is welcomed. We suggest that an amount of $50 weekly is enough for them.
  15. Is there any safe place when my child can leave its valuables?

Every child has the key to their room and it is always safe to leave their valuables in the room. However, for extra precaution they can leave their valuables with IH. We will take care of them. The child, parent or agency has to authorize us for doing so.
  16. Is it possible to do laundry on campus/home?

Yes. For those participating in a residential program, this is possible. Upon arrival the child will be furnished with a laundry card. The laundry card has to be loaded with money ($1.65 per wash/dry)

For those participating in the homestay program, they can use the laundry machines of the family at no extra cost.
  17. What clothes should my child/children bring at the summer camp?

Anything that makes them feel comfortable in the summer. Please do not forget the swimming suits, hat and sunscreen.

Winters in Canada are cold so we strongly recommend that your child brings warm clothes with him/her.
  18. How many people are going to be sleeping in one room?

For those registering in the residential program, we have availability for single, double or triple rooms. Because the spaces are limited, we encourage you to come forward with any preferences as early as possible. Please note that expressing the preference DOES NOT guarantee the room you want. Remember that making new friends is one of the best parts of the program!!!

For those participating in the home-stay program there will be single or double rooms only.
  19. Can my children leave the campus at any time?

At the residence, your child may leave the campus during free time. They can do so only subject to campus rules and regulations and International House reserves the right to refuse such requests. Also, the student can only be allowed if they have the written consent of the parent. For this there is a form the parent needs to fill.

For those participating in the homestay program, they may be able to leave the house only subject to family rules and we work very close with the family to ensure that everything is closely monitored.
  20. Does the TAP Student need any particular document in order to be accepted into Canada?

Most Canadian Embassies require a Guardianship Form to be filled in by the parent or legal guardian. Please check with your closest embassy for details. The form consents someone in Canada to take care of the child while in our country. The form has to be filled by the parent/guardian and then sent to our school for confirmation. Our school will than appoint a guardian for the child and the documentation will be sent to the student for him/her to posses.

Click here to download the Guardianship Form. Only complete page 2 of the form.
  21. What is the age of students participating in the junior programs?

The program has been designed for students of ages 12 – 17. Younger student may join the program but they have to be accompanied by an older sibling or an adult that can help them.
  22. Who is the family my child will live with?

International House has worked with families for many years now and all of them are professional host families and have lots of experience with working with children. Characteristics of the family, including contact information will be given to your child and to the child’s family immediately upon the confirmation of the registration of your child.
