TOEIC Test Format

The TOEIC test is a two hour test with 200 multiple choice questions and is divided into 2 main sections: listening and reading. The highest possible score is 990. The TOEIC test, unlike the TOEFL test, is still a paper and pencil test. The TOEIC test also includes a pre-test questionnaire, that asks for your educational and work history.

Section 1: Listening

This section is divided into 3 sections. The listening section is 45 minutes long.

  1. Photographs: 10 questions
  2. Question and Response: 30 questions
  3. Short Conversations: 30 questions

Section 2: Reading

This section of the test is 75 minutes long.

  1. Incomplete Sentences: 40 questions
  2. Text Completion: 12 questions
  3. Reading Comprehension: 48 questions

"Can initiate and maintain predictable face-to-face conversations on familiar topics.”
Level 2 (CLB 7-8)
605 - 780 points
Basic working proficiency in English
"Ability to satisfy routine social demands and limited work requirements.”
Level 2+ (CLB 9-10)
785 - 900 points
Advanced working proficiency
"Able o satisfy most requirements with language that is often, but not always, acceptable and effective.”
Level 3 (CLB 11)
905-990 points
Professional proficiency in English
"Ability to communicate effectively in almost any situation.”
