At Sol Schools International, we pride ourselves on offering our students a Business English Certificate course that equips them with the tools to conduct themselves effectively in an array of business situations. With the use of course books and authentic materials, our highly qualified teachers deliver dynamic Business English lessons geared towards preparing students to succeed in everything from Customer Service to Crisis Management. This course is designed for the current business professional or for students pursuing a post-secondary business degree.

The Business English Certificate is a 12-week program that follows the SG-30 class timetable.

Students can start the Business English Certificate any week.

Single Period Electives

Targeted English

Targeted English is a course specifically designed to help beginner students overcome individual language challenges. The course is taught in very small groups so that students receive individualized attention as they are expedited through their areas of need. This course is only offered to lower levels and in small groups.

Accent Reduction For You

Depending on your native tongue, you will have difficulties with a certain aspect of grasping the English accent. This course is offered to speakers of specific languages. The instructor will focus on the specific pronunciation needs of those language speakers. For example: "Accent Reduction for Japanese" is designed specifically to deal with pronunciation issues relating to Japanese speakers. Course offered on demand to classes of 5 students or more.

Media   Film

Improve your knowledge of slang and idiomatic language through the study of Media and Film. This elective provides you with a teacher-guided opportunity to examine language in Media and Film, and to further build your vocabulary bank of everyday language. You will have the opportunity to work with both contemporary and classical resources, enabling you to not only develop language ability but also to identify how the English language has evolved.

Sports English

If you are a sports fanatic who enjoys discussing everything from archery to zumba and anything in between, then this elective is for you! Emphasis is placed on building students language abilities within the context of sports. You will have the opportunity to look at topics that include, but are not limited to: the history of sports, the Olympics, hobbies, team and individual sports.

Slang & Idioms

Native English speakers, movies, television and even business people use unusual English words and phrases all the time. To really understand the language, people and the culture of a particular country, it is extremely important to learn these idioms and phrases that you will not find in most English textbooks or classes.

English Literature

This intellectually stimulating elective, allows students the opportunity to interpret language within the context of English Literature. Through the exploration of English language Literature, students are able to experiment with how to incorporate this language into everyday use. This course is especially useful for students who are currently education professionals or pursuing a post-secondary education qualification.

Academic Writing

With an increase in international students seeking to gain admission to Canadian post-secondary institutions, there is a greater need for students to be able to demonstrate a level of proficiency in their academic writings. The Academic Writing elective offers students the opportunity to fine-tune their writing skills, so that they can effectively produce works that are appropriate in an academic setting, and on par with those produced by native English writers.

Writing & Drama

Many students struggle with the challenge of overcoming their shyness in English Language learning. The Writing & Drama elective class enables students to increase their fluency and accuracy, in the safe environment of both a scripted and improvised Writing & Drama. This project-based class provides students with an engaging opportunity to directly influence what and how they will develop their language skills.

Journalism

This elective will improve all of your English skills through an integrated approach to learning. You will work on specific projects each week and learn more about your school, your city and the world. Practice your reporting, writing, interviewing and collaborating skills to create a school newspaper that is popular among the students.

Conversation/Pronunciation

Improve your verbal skills and gain confidence by learning vocabulary and phrases needed to discuss current events and everyday activities. By taking this elective, you will improve your fluency and pronunciation so that you can clearly express yourself outside of the classroom.

Enhance your English skills beyond the textbook and general ESL through real world business related discussions, case studies and topics. Study a variety of topics related to national and international business settings with experienced instructors in an intensive format that integrates all skills. This course is a requirement for the Professional Internship Program.

American Work Culture

Before entering the work force in North America, it is important to know how to conduct yourself, how the workplace differs from your country, and what is expected from you and your employer. This class will teach you everything you need to know from the application process to the actual work experience.

*Please note that the following electives listed below will fill up two periods. So for example, if you select TOEIC preparation, you will be studying TOEIC Preparation in periods E and F.

TOEIC Preparation

Used by corporations and government agencies alike, the TOEIC score is one of the most reliable methods of testing workplace English communication ability. Our TOEIC class will help you build the listening and reading comprehension skills needed to achieve a high score on this examination.

TOEFL Preparation

Recognized by universities, colleges and businesses worldwide, successful completion of the TOEFL iBT can help you achieve your professional and academic goals. In addition to learning test taking strategies, this course will also take you through simulation tests to assure success on your exam day.

IELTS Preparation

The IELTS test score is frequently used by educational institutions, employers and government agencies to assess a candidate's overall English abilities. Our IELTS test preparation course will help you become familiar with the IELTS testing format and help you increase your test score. The course is also ideal for anyone wanting to strengthen all four language skills.

English On Demand

Our English on Demand addition allows you to focus on your personal needs, at your own pace with the assistance of a qualified instructor and web-based English practice. You will create your own English program with your instructor and will focus on the language skills and topics of your choice.
